THE IDEA
The AMEN CODEC turns pictures and words into drum & bass — and back. Every key on the board is a real amen break chop, professionally cut, played whole, locked to 175 BPM. Type and you are drumming. Feed it a photo and every pixel's brightness becomes a chop; feed it a message and every letter becomes a hit. The result is a track you can dance to that a machine can read back with its ears.
HOW IT WORKS, ROUGHLY
A track opens by saying its own size in binary on the 0 and 1 pads. A snare — the kack — lands every four counts so your head and the decoder both keep time. Special drum sequences mark the line breaks. The decoder listens, matches each hit against the known chops, and rebuilds the image pixel by pixel or the message letter by letter, live, on the beat. No hidden chirps, no data noise: if it doesn't bang, it doesn't decode.
WHY
Because sound is an air gap. A song on a cassette tape can carry a photograph. A drum loop played across a room can deliver a chapter of a book. This site is the listening end of that experiment — press the green button and watch Genesis type itself out of a jungle track.
